PMD - TCWC Early Warning
Under the framework of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and International Maritime Organization the entire Global Ocean has been divided into 17 sub-regions and different meteorological services are assigned the responsibility to provide marine weather forecasts, warning and other related information to ensure safety of marine navigation & coastal activities. This programme is called Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). Pakistan Meteorological Department has been given the responsibility of marine safety for Met. Area-IX under Global Maritime Distress & Safety System (GMDSS), so this center would also provide enhanced Marine Meteorological Service to shipping community under GMDSS.

Advanced TCWC Early Warnings for Public Safety
PMD being a member of World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has the responsibility of issuing forecast and warning for the Tropical Cyclones for the North Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman, Central North Arabian Sea and Gulf of Aden. This center has the basic infrastructure necessary for providing effective and timely tropical cyclone/Sea storm forecasts and warnings. The TCWC is also helpful in defense point of view for the country, as the cyclonic storm may have the potential to cause damage to any of the strategic points along the Sindh and Balochistan Coasts.
