About the National Weather Forecasting Centre (NWFC)

The National Weather Forecasting Centre (NWFC) is the main hub of weather forecasting and warning services in Pakistan. Based in Islamabad, it operates under the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and works around the clock to keep the nation informed and prepared for changing weather conditions.

Every day, our team of dedicated meteorologists monitors weather patterns across the country and beyond—analyzing data from satellites, radars, and automatic weather stations—to provide timely forecasts and alerts. Whether it’s a sunny day, a monsoon spell, or a severe storm, NWFC strives to ensure that accurate information reaches everyone who depends on it.

Our Mission

To provide accurate, timely, and reliable weather information that helps protect lives, property, and the environment—while supporting the daily needs of people and national development goals.

What We Do

At NWFC, we:

  • Monitor weather systems across Pakistan and surrounding regions.

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and seasonal forecasts for cities and regions.

  • Issue early warnings for heavy rains, floods, heatwaves, windstorms, and other severe events.

  • Provide aviation forecasts for airports nationwide.

  • Share important weather updates with disaster management authorities, media, and the public.

  • Support research and innovation in forecasting, climate modeling, and satellite meteorology.

Our Technology

NWFC uses a blend of modern technology and scientific expertise. Data from Doppler radars, weather satellites, automatic weather stations, and global weather models is combined and analyzed using advanced computing systems. This helps our forecasters predict weather patterns with greater accuracy and confidence.

Working Together

We collaborate closely with national organizations and international partners such as the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and other regional forecasting centers. These partnerships strengthen our capabilities and help us stay at the forefront of modern meteorology.

Our Commitment

Weather affects every part of life—from farmers and travelers to emergency responders and energy planners. At NWFC, we are committed to serving the people of Pakistan with reliable forecasts, honest communication, and continuous improvement. Our goal is simple: to help everyone make safer, smarter decisions—rain or shine.
